Hey blogosphere, Hannah here, serving up a new weekend mix. Get pumped, because this week we’re talking about hobbies–the fun stuff! Our pastimes are often icing on the cake of life…little bits of sweetness that help us make it through the day. But our hobbies are also great clues about what we really love to do. What if you could spend all your time on your hobbies? What would you do with your life if money was of no concern?
My mentor has always imparted to me the importance of what she calls a “side hustle.” Even if you love your job, she thinks it’s necessary to also have hobbies and interests on the side. Being multidimensional keeps life from getting boring. And, bonus–being multidimensional also opens you up to more opportunities!
So many Leaders suggest that it’s important to find jobs that we would do for free. Marty Odlin is one of our Leaders who has successfully turned a hobby into a career. He decided to build a bike for fun, and crafted one from bamboo temporarily. The bike turned out awesome! Now, he is co-founder/engineer at Bamboo Bike Studio. Something that was once just a fun side project turned into a creative career. His advice: “You don’t have many chances to get on something you really like. If you’re lucky in life, you get one….But they’re not just gonna keep coming. So as soon as you see something, go at it as hard as you can.”
I’d love to hear from you guys. What are your hobbies? What do you aspire to be? Let us know what you want to do with your life by blasting it loud and proud on Twitter–be sure to include the #IAspireTo hashtag!
