Our Social Media Director Hitches a Ride to SXSW with KrochetKids!

March 8, 2013

When you wake up in the morning and it’s still dark out, and you’ve got a bag of family-sized pretzels and an iPod with hours’ worth of music, you know it means you’re about to go on a really long Roadtrip adventure! Well, it does for me! Today, I hitched a ride to South by Southwest with the wonderful Krochet Kids Int., a fellow non-profit based out of Costa Mesa, CA. Krochet Kids International’s mission is “To create sustainable economic development programs that support holistic growth of individuals and communities within developing nations.” They are currently working in Uganda and Peru, helping to educate and mentor women so those women can create sustainable futures for themselves. The work KKi does is awesome, and it parallels our mission to empower people, so I knew we’d click like peanut butter and jelly, Mary Kate and Ashley, or another pairing that’s less embarrassing.

When I arrived at the meeting spot for the start of our Roadtrip, I was greeted by the smiley, faces KKi interns and Nic, the head of community involvement at KKi. They had been kind enough to let me jump into their van to make our way to Austin for South by Southwest (SXSW), an annual conference that brings together great minds and talents in music, independent films, and emerging technologies. As an online community nerd, going to South-by-Southwest is an opportunity to meet fellow social media nerds and get inspired by great ideas, new technology and stories. Needless to say, I’m ready for information overload.

While I’m there, I’ll be catching up with past Leaders, Roadtrippers and learning/experiencing a whole lot in Austin, Texas. So stay tuned, as I’ll be tweeting and posting from the conference. If you’re in Austin for the conference, tweet to us! I want to hear about your experience and recommendations!

See you in Austin!
